New management for German Wine Institute (DWI) office in Sweden

12/20/2016

“Wines of Germany” Sweden will come under new management from January 2017. Following a Europe-wide call for tenders by the German Wine Institute (DWI), the Ehrenberg Kommunikation agency, which has been in charge of the DWI representation in Denmark since the beginning of 2016, will now also take over the Swedish offices in Malmö and Stockholm.

Head of the new “Wines of Germany” team is Karin Pontén, she will be assisted by Jenny Löfgren. The excellent suitability of German wines with traditional Nordic cuisine will be in the focus of communications. The aim is to convince Swedish consumers - with emotional marketing and contemporary campaigns - of the excellence of wines from German regions in order to increase the country´s presence in the market.

“We see still great potential for German wines in Sweden”, explains DWI managing director Monika Reule. “The Swedish are very sophisticated wine drinkers and this goes hand in hand with the excellent quality of our wines.”

The current market share for German wines in Sweden is 3.6% and with an export volume of ca. 84,000 hectolitres, Sweden is the sixth most important foreign market for German wines. Over 80% of all wines in the country are marketed through the alcohol monopoly “Systembolaget”.
